So, I turned 25! 😀
I didn’t have a huge party this year — I had my family over, my boyfriend and a couple of friends who were able to stop by the night before my birthday, and for the actual 29th I sat around with Nick and my little brother playing Modern Warfare 3 and watching Adventure Time and Breaking Bad on Netflix.
Overall, it was pretty nice! 🙂
I had more of a birthday month to be honest though, Here are some of the highlights of my fantastic month and of the people who make my life amazing:
1) I got a kitten!
I had been having a really tough time dealing with some family issues as well as the anniversary of my sister’s death this year, and Nick took me to get a kitten to help me deal. I’ve always loved cats and had to get rid of a couple that I had when we met because he’s allergic, but he was willing to suffer for me to get this one! Her name is Buffy Bee Pibb and we got her from a woman claiming to own a local independent rescue, although I suspect now that she just found some kittens and tried selling them. Buffy had an upper respiratory infection when we got her but I took her to the vet the day before my birthday and they were able to work with me to get treatment for her! 😀
She’s so sweet and Nick is absolutely in love with her, despite his allergies acting up a bit. I keep telling him to leave her alone but he keeps trying to cuddle with her! She’s very cute. 🙂
2) On the topic of Buffy, some of my incredible friends surprised me with the entire series on DVD
Here’s the awesome story behind this: I am a part of this great group online of girls (some of whom I’ve known on the internet for the last decade, and some that I’ve only known for the last handful of months) and when they heard that the box set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer I had ordered was stolen from my doorstep after delivery, they set up a secret Paypal fund for me behind my back that they all then donated to, and were able to purchase me a whole new Buffy box set and conspire with my boyfriend to have it delivered to me and for him to record my Instagrammed opening of the box / discovering what it was, but even had money left over to order me a special awesome unicorn card for my birthday and Paypal the leftovers to me, which helped me pay for Buffy’s veterinary visit as well as the small party I had!
If there is anything that could restore your faith that there are genuinely good people in the world, this should be it! I had no idea they were doing this, and so many people pitched in just because they saw that something crappy had happened to someone they knew. I was completely astounded by this wonderful deed and couldn’t possibly ask for better friends! And I have BUFFY!!! 😀
3) I had a small party and Nick decorated my bedroom to surprise me! He also spoiled me with gifts throughout the month, as did my mom and youngest brother:
Some wonderful non-local friends sent me Starbucks e-cards via Facebook! I was able to load them all onto this card! THANK YOU! 😀
In addition to this stuff, I also got some cool presents from friends in other places — My friend Natalie sent me some adorable cupcake themed stuff along with authentic Canadian Maple syrup in a fun birthday surprise box, and my lovely Hogwarts companion from a few years ago, Sinéad, mailed me a copy of Neil Gaiman’s new book, SIGNED BY GAIMAN HIMSELF!
All in all, it was an excellent month and an awesome birthday! I’m so grateful to have the friends I do and the boyfriend and family I do. I feel like this month has been an excellent eye opener as to which of my friends/relationships value me in return, and which don’t — And I am through spending my time on the people that don’t value me!
As my baby brother said, “New year, new attitude!” 😛
THANK YOU to everyone who made my birthday so special! Words can’t even express my gratitude over everything that was done for me! I love you guys 🙂
