Happy #FaceFriday, friends!!⁠ I’m having a personal life crisis, so we’re going to keep this fairly lighthearted - and apologies if I’m slow to respond this week! ⁠ I'm going with this selfie today, 'cause it shows off my most fav pair of glasses! It's hard taking good selfies with glasses on, 'cause the glare is INTENSE, and I can go from having eyeballs to only having white empty sockets in a matter of seconds.⁠ ⁠ These have some anti-reflective coating, but even still, at certain angles, goodbye eyeballs! 😂⁠ ⁠ I've worn glasses since I was about 9 years old. I got them in the 4th grade, and remember not realizing that you could see all the individual leaves on a tree when looking at it!⁠ ⁠ Until then, I'd always just seen big green blobs! I'm pretty sure I cried about it 'cause I was so surprised at how clear everything looked! 🤓🤓🤓⁠ ⁠ Tell me something about you! Do you wear glasses? Time for another #NightWormsBookParty!! What a debut, holy smokes! We pretty much unanimously loved this one, and the entire group of us have been stunned by the fact that this is Laurel Hightower's first ever book!⁠ ⁠ I'm a big fan of compelling, fierce characters, and Hightower knocks it out of the park with Rose McFarland in WHISPERS. The characters in her story are all so complete and whole, it feels like you're reading about actual people. Rose in particular is written with so much detail that she seemed to leap off of the pages. I could easily see her on screen in a TV series about her life, and I'd watch the hell out of it because she's an amazing badass that I'd love to be best friends with! She reminded me a little of Anita Blake - although, I guess her Whispers are a little... different, lol. Both are really strong, take-no-shit type women, and I love that in a character so much!⁠ ⁠ My full review is on my blog (letsgetgalactic.com) and my Goodreads now! What's your favorite book series? Tell me in the comments & I'll let you know if I've read it or not!⁠ ⁠ The Wayward Children series is my absolute favorite - alright, I love Harry Potter a whole heck of a lot, so there's also that! But this is my most favorite recent series, and it's INCREDIBLE.⁠ ⁠ It's written by Seanan McGuire, who if you don't already know is the real name of the horror writer Mira Grant (FEED, ROLLING IN THE DEEP, etc). She's one of my absolute favorites, and her ability to blend horror with fantasy and sci-fi is nearly unparalleled for me as a bookworm!⁠ ⁠ This series has a bit of everything, but mostly focuses on some heavy / horror-y stuff - especially book 2, which is my personal favorite! I'm not sure how to even narrow down a quick description, so I urge you to check the books out on Goodreads or Amazon and see if you'd like them! They're quick to get through, and seriously SO good. I got this as my Book of the Month - did anyone else? I don't know why I always gravitate to the thrillers (especially since they're so hit or miss!), but I went for it again and hope the end result is one I enjoy!⁠ ⁠ What are the genres you read most? I obviously read horror the most (in case you couldn't tell by the majority of reviews on my blog & photos posted to my IG!), but thrillers/suspense type ones are also a genre I love! And then I have an obsession for all things sci-fi, have a bunch of fantasy books, and love YA. I've been trying to branch out a bit genre wise with my #branchout2020 project, and this is one of the titles I've done it with this year! I'm not normally a big historical fiction / contemporary type person, but I'd heard so many good things about THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO, and wanted to give it a shot!⁠ ⁠ I grabbed this one on Audible, and LOVED it so much, omg! I'd HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this one as an audiobook if you can, because the cast was so compelling and entertaining. The book itself is great too though, even just reading - I had a copy from the library that I had to return (before getting it on Audible), so when it came time for my BotM pick, I knew what I had to do!⁠ ⁠ Fun fact: the author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, also wrote DAISY JONES & THE SIX! That's another one I'd very much recommend listening to if you can, 'cause the way the characters and story format come to life when listening is UNREAL. Both books are so good, and feature some really interesting and well crafted characters.
